Bureau of Customs deputy commissioner Atty. Edward James Dy Buco will speak at SCMAP’s upcoming General Membership Meeting, slated for tomorrow, 17 August, at the Discovery Suites in Pasig City.
A lawyer by profession, Dy Buco has served in various capacities at the Bureau of Customs from 2002, working as deputy collector in Davao and Cebu. Prior to his appointment, he was a managing partner of the Mosquera Dy Buco Law Office based in General Santos. He was also, at one point, a provincial board member for Antique’s north district. He was appointed as deputy commissioner for the BOC’s Assessment and Operations Coordinating Group by former commissioner Nicanor Faeldon in December 2016.
Dy Buco is set to discuss the BOC’s plans to accredit and regulate shipping firms, as part of its new mandate under the Customs Modernization and Tariffs Act, as well as other initiatives by the bureau.
He joins previously confirmed speakers Michael Kurt Raeuber of Royal Cargo and Atty. Pete Aguilar of the Philippine Inter-Island Shipping Association in a GMM which will tackle the impact of shipping rates on supply chain competitiveness. This comes after the Department of Trade and Industry officially requested the Philippine Competition Commission to do a review of these rates.
