Cabinet secretary Karlo Nograles revealed government’s plans to stimulate the economy and ensure supply chain efficiency as the country loosens its COVID-19 restrictions in the first SCAn Networks Hub E-Forum, held online yesterday (10 June).

Nograles, who co-chairs the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF), discussed how the public sector intends to provide assistance to severely affected sectors such as agriculture and manufacturing. He specifically identified the transport sector as a key focus of these efforts, noting the accelerated rollout of the National Transport Policy to ensure the realignment of strategies in mass transit, mobility and supply chain.

He also noted efforts to formulate a National Food Policy to align government initiatives to ensure food security, another issue that has been highlighted by COVID-19.

Representing the private sector was SCMAP president Christine PardiƱas, who outlined how manufacturers, retailers and supply chain stakeholders have adopted to the disruptions caused by COVID-19, and how the public and private sectors continue to collaborate to ensure service to consumers remain consistent.

UPPAF-RESPOND chief of party Dr. Enrico Basilio moderated the event, while SCMAP president-elect Pierre Carlo Curay provided the closing remarks.

The SCAn Networks Hub E-Forum is co-organized by SCMAP, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), the Philippine Exporters’ Confederation (PHILEXPORT), the Export Development Council, and UPPAF-RESPOND. The second event is scheduled for 23 June; more details will be revealed soon.
