SCMAP’s final General Membership Meeting of 2019 looked at the many facets of supply chain network design, with a particular focus on designing the physical distribution network for any business.

The GMM was held last 21 November, again at the EDSA Shangri-la Manila in Mandaluyong City.

Former SCMAP president and Unilab corporate vice president Nestor Felicio began the event by looking at the “Bohemian Rhapsody” of network design, looking at the many considerations – location, cost, access to supplies and labor – that goes into designing the ideal supply chain network for any company.

Then, Tom Over, director for capital markets of JLL Philippines, looked at global developments in logistics, demonstrated the current gap in logistics facilities in the Philippines, and argued for the need for real estate developers to build state-of-the-art logistics facilities in anticipation of future demand.

An open forum afterwards fleshed out these points, and explored the impact of e-commerce and government initiatives to expand infrastructure to supply chain in the country.

The event also saw the induction of new members Academy of Developmental Logistics and Ayala Land Logistics Holdings Inc.

The next General Membership Meeting is scheduled for 16 April 2020, with more details to be revealed closer to the date.
