SCMAP North Luzon tackled the issue of transport for the Subic-Clark corridor and beyond – and its role in ensuring the smooth development of the emerging region – in its General Membership Meeting held last 21 September.

Delegates from across the region as well as from Manila came to the Prism Lounge at the Widus Hotel and Casino in Clark to hear from speakers from the public and private sectors to discuss how they are tackling the challenge of providing a total transport system for the region.

Rondel Apelo, head of GrabExpress in the Philippines, began the event with a look at how the ride-sharing service has expanded its offering to deliveries, as well as its unique GrabTrike service in Angeles. Jess Sison from the Land Transport Franchising and Regulatory Board’s region 3 office then presented the many aspects of government’s plans for PUV modernization, which aside from new vehicles also includes route modernization and continuous driver education.

Presenting perspectives from Clark were the Clark International Airport’s Darwin Cunanan, who presented the current master plan for the airport’s expansion (while noting that it is due for a change next year), and the Clark Development Authority’s Rodem Perez, who unveiled the new master plan for the freeport as well as proposed transport connections linking it to New Clark City, Angeles, and the greater region.

The GMM is the first of the year for SCMAP North Luzon, who has also organized several Kapihan Sessions in collaboration with other industry groups in the area.
