The concerns and challenges surrounding surge periods – particularly the need for increased capacity among logistics service providers to cope with these periods – took the spotlight in SCMAP’s latest General Membership Meeting.
The forum saw the presentation of the early findings of the surge planning collaboration group, illustrating the reasons for surge periods both planned and unplanned, the challenges faced by stakeholders across the supply chain when capacity is reached, and the approaches done to mitigate the impact of these surges. These came from a focus group discussion held last 9 June at the SCMAP offices, attended by representatives from manufacturing, retail and logistics.
SCMAP director Tina Alvarez, representing Procter & Gamble, led the open forum, assisted by SCMAP’s executive director Norman Adriano and Fast Logistics’ Manny Onrejas.
The GMM also saw the induction of seven new members to the organization: Arctic Cold Refrigation, represented by Atty. Jesus Fernando Jr.; Bernabest Foodhouse Corporation, represented by Pamela Ann Bernabe; Dels Apparel Corporation, represented by Aries Asutilla; ECV Cargo Solutions, represented by Almund Gregory Lui; Everywhere Consulting, represented by Noriel Azucena; Logistikus Inc., represented by Jose Martin Capino; and Technology Links International Corporation, represented by Robert Bonito.
The surge planning group is set to mount more FGDs, in collaboration with other groups such as last mile logistics and downstream collaboration. Meanwhile, our next General Membership Meeting is scheduled for 23 August.
