SCMAP’s second General Membership Meeting for 2017 tackled how collaboration and trust is fostered in the supply chain with the help of different approaches from University of the Philippines professor Dr. Ma. Gloria Talavera and Zalora Philippines managing director Constantin Robertz.

The event, attended by around fifty participants, was held at the F1 Hotel Manila at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City. It saw a discussion of how collaboration is forged among different stakeholders across the supply chain, both through an academic perspective and through real practice.

First, Dr. Talavera discussed a study she published in 2014 about how well stakeholders collaborate with each other. While the data – collected from manufacturers through a survey – suggested that levels were low, she acknowledged that things may have changed in the intervening years, and that circumstances may be different depending on industry.

Next, Robertz, who previously spoke at the 2015 SCMAP Supply Chain Conference, looked at how Zalora established trust across its supply chain – with brands, logistics partners and ultimately its customers. He noted a considerable hurdle in customers not usually being comfortable with shopping online, especially fashion items, and cited their considerable investment in technology to ensure, among others, cash-on-delivery services and better relationship with vendors.

This was then followed by an open forum where delegates managed to put their questions to the speakers.

The event also featured the formal induction of two new members to SCMAP: National Bookstore, represented by Arnel Gamboa, and Solid Machinery, represented by Henry Chua.

The next General Membership Meeting will be held on 15 June, with details to be announced closer to the date.
