SCMAP is among the private sector partners of DELIVER-e, a new online logistics platform that aims to streamline food value chains, improve food security and uplift the Philippine agricultural sector.
The initiative is led by the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Agriculture, with assistance provided by USAID-DELIVER. Private sector partners include SCMAP, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Philippine Family Farmers’ Agriculture Fishery Forestry Cooperatives Federation, and Food Terminal Incorporated.
The platform was launched through a live-streamed event yesterday, 14 December. SCMAP president Christine PardiƱas were among industry stakeholders that signed a ceremonial commitment pledge as the platform is rolled out to other regions.
DELIVER-e is a digital platform that connects farmers and buyers through an end-to-end market system. Based on a blockchain-based system developed by InsightSCS – a Filipino tech start-up founded by incoming SCMAP president Pierre Carlo Curay – it integrates related logistics application and e-commerce services at all points of the supply chain, from consolidation to warehousing to last mile delivery.
As part of the IATF-EID sub-task force on food value chain and logistics – established to address looming gaps in agricultural value chains and issues in food security that arose as the COVID-19 pandemic struck – SCMAP has provided insights and expertise during the consultation, benchmarking and planning phases of the platform.
DELIVER-e has been operating since April, and has already impacted around 600 farmers in Luzon and Mindanao, with a total of over 260 tons of fresh fruits and vegetables valued at PHP 7.15 million. Their incomes have since doubled and food wastage was reduced to 5% from 50%.
This is one of many efforts SCMAP has taken part in to #keepsupplychainmoving during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. In past months SCMAP helped develop the SCAn Dashboard and Incident Reporter app, bringing supply chain bottlenecks to the attention of key policy makers in government, and also played a more prominent role in clarifying policies in movement of goods and people during the community quarantine period.
