Department of Trade and Industry secretary Ramon Lopez delivered the keynote address in the third and final leg of #SCC20 Live – this year’s edition of the SCMAP Supply Chain Conference, reimagined for these extraordinary times – held last 22 October.
In his prerecorded address he talked about the importance of the supply chain sector in keeping the Philippine economy moving, a role particularly stressed during the COVID-19 pandemic and its resulting restrictions on movement and activities, as well as initiatives by the government to lower logistics costs and improve supply chain competitiveness.
Lopez, who was named DTI secretary in 2016, has become a champion of the supply chain sector. Under his leadership the DTI has expanded its collaboration with other government agencies, as well as the private sector. Most notable is the establishment of the Logistics Services Philippines umbrella, which SCMAP is part of, and the signing of the Ten Commitments of the Philippine Logistics Services Sector, which provides a road map towards the industry’s competitiveness.
