SCMAP Visayas is set to tackle the issue of connectivity in Cebu and across Central Visayas in its upcoming Infrastructure and Traffic Summit, which will be held on 15 September at the Bayfront Hotel in Cebu City.
The event will look at critical issues pertaining to transportation and infrastructure, particularly the development of new gateways and roads, as well as the utilization of existing structures and implementation of new schemes to improve traffic, alleviate enhance connectivity and aid economic growth.
Among one of those new projects is the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway, which will serve as a third bridge connecting the island of Mactan to Cebu City upon completion in 2022. Engr. Allan Aflon, head of Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corporation – a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, who won the contract for the project – will join the event to discuss the benefits of the new bridge.
Providing an overview of transportation issues in Cebu City are Engr. Fortunato Sanchez, chair of the committee for infrastructure and utilities of the Metro Cebu Development and Coordinating Board, and Jensen Racho, a former president of the United Architects of the Philippines. Sanchez is expected to look into issues relating to transportation of goods and services, while Racho will square in on traffic.
Finally, joining the event is SCMAP Visayas director Dr. Rodien Paca, who will look at the state of the Port of Cebu amidst developments in international shipping and trade.
The event promises to be an insightful one looking into Cebu’s role as the economic hub of central Visayas, and efforts to ensure it continues to keep up with economic growth and development.
