The Philippine Skills Framework initiative, which was launched last 25 June, is set to advance supply chain education in the country, particularly with the logistics and supply chain sector named as one of seven priority industries.

The PSF aims to build the skills and competencies of Filipino workers and prepare them for expected upheavals in industry in the coming years. The PSF for the Supply Chain and Logistics Sector, also launched on 25 June, was prepared by the Department of Trade and Industry, the Philippine Trade Training Center, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, and the Professional Regulatory Commission.

SCMAP is among the initiative’s private sector partners, as a member of the Logistics Services Philippines group, which brings together various industry associations to present a unified voice on supply chain issues. The framework is built on assistance from SkillsFuture Singapore, the Singapore Institute of Materials Management, Thames International Business School, and Singapore-based Accelebator.

Specifically, the PSF identifies essential skills and capabilities for those working in the supply chain and logistics sectors, and serve as a common language for employers and workers to better match available jobs with skills. It integrates various training programs impacting the logistics sector, including national certification programs for warehousing services that SCMAP helped develop on behalf of TESDA.

In his remarks during the launch, SCMAP president Pierre Carlo Curay lauded the opportunity to expand supply chain education in the country and to make the sector more competitive not just here, but in other countries as well.
