The Supply Chain Management Association of the Philippines is proud to be part of Pilipinas Kontra Gutom, a multi-sectoral movement aiming to address hunger and malnutrition in the country.

Spearheaded by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Zero Hunger led by Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, and joined by almost 70 companies, non-government organizations and civic groups, the movement seeks to ensure availability, accessibility and adequacy of nutritious food to all Filipinos. The goal is to eradicate hunger in the country by 2030.

In recognition of the role of supply chain in achieving these goals, SCMAP was invited to offer its insights and assistance. In particular, the organization is involved in ensuring greater access to markets for farmers; addressing hunger gaps in the immediate aftermath of disasters; and developing a food bank system across the country to reduce wastage. The movement seeks to leverage on initiatives already forged by the private sector as well as government agencies to make a stronger impact.

These initiatives were unveiled in a media launch held on 22 February, with SCMAP president Pierre Carlo Curay among the presenters.

In the coming months, SCMAP will be working to realize the plans set out by Pilipinas Kontra Gutom, and hopes to count on its members to provide support and assistance as well.

Its participation in the movement is part of the organization’s initiatives in 2021 to further supply chain’s role in further economic competitiveness and quality of life for all. These include the recent launching of the DELIVER-e logistics platform for farmers, and the unveiling of new training offerings.
