#SCC20 Live – this year’s edition of the SCMAP Supply Chain Conference, reimagined for these extraordinary times – kicked off yesterday, 8 October, with a look at what lies ahead for supply chain stakeholders.

The event, held online via Zoom, was led by keynote speaker Atty. Nina Asuncion from the Department of Finance. She spoke of the national government’s plans to stimulate the economy amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly the recently-signed Bayanihan to Recover as One law, and proposals to reform corporate tax rates and fiscal incentives for investors.

Presenting her outlook on the Philippine economy is COL Financial Group’s April Tan, who looked at the sectors she believes are the most and least vulnerable as the country continues to grapple with the pandemic, and outlined possible outcomes in the coming months.

Philippine Retailers Association president Rosemarie Ong followed with a focus on the prospects of the retail sector, talking about how the pandemic has impacted consumer and business confidence and how the industry is looking to bounce back by adapting to new customer preferences.

Finally, Mark Assaf of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development looked at the challenges faced by the logistics sector during the pandemic – some of which go back to before the coronavirus struck – and efforts across the world to both adapt to current circumstances and prepare itself for the future.

If you missed this session, you can watch it on demand for the next month. Register by clicking here; it is free for SCMAP members and PHP 500 per session for non-members.

There are two more #SCC20 Live sessions in the next two weeks, scheduled on 15 and 22 October via Zoom. More speakers have been announced, led by DTI secretary Ramon Lopez, who will deliver the keynote address on the 22 October session. Click here to see the full programmes for the coming weeks.
