The 2019 Supply Chain Immersion will be held on 17-19 May 2019, and will be held in Bacolod, center of the country’s sugar trade and an emerging city in its own right.
The capital of Negros Occidental has long been a hub of the the Philippine sugar industry, being the closest city to the many plantations that dot the island up to this day. Bacolod saw a further boom when a port was finally developed within the city itself – previously sugar was shipped to Iloilo for export – and the city soon saw prosperity until exports declined in the 1970s. Now the city is seeing a resurgence with new property developments rising, with residents attracted to its quality of life and renowned food scene.
Delegates to this year’s Supply Chain Immersion will be heading to Bacolod via MV St. Michael the Archangel. On 17 May, there will be a day-long series of talks and workshops looking at both supply chain fundamentals as well as challenges and opportunities facing the sector today.
Upon arriving in Bacolod on 18 May there will be tours of Central Azucarera de la Carlota and Roxol Bioenergy, as we explore the sugar supply chain in the city. We will depart the city via plane on 19 May, but not after a whistlestop tour of the city’s landmarks and food destinations.
