Tax reform main focus for Supply Chain Outlook

Supply Chain Outlook, SCMAP’s first event for 2018, will tackle the impact of new tax reforms on the supply chain industry and to the Philippine economy at large.

Mitch Abdon, incoming director of the Strategy, Economics and Results Group (SERG) of the Department of Finance, will be joining the event to explain the impact of the recently passed Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law, as well as looking ahead at the second set of tax reforms to be implemented by the Duterte administration.

The SERG is a new group within the DOF formed last year, tasked to provide strategic advice and research on fiscal policies that would support the socioeconomic agenda of the government. It is led by DOF undersecretary Karl Kendrick Chua, who heads the crafting of the government’s tax reform policies.

Prior to joining the DOF, Abdon held positions in the Asian Development Bank and the Institute for Development and Econometrics Analysis, and consulted with the World Bank and the Asia Foundation. She finished her Bachelor’s degree in mathematics and Master’s degree in economics at the University of the Philippines.

Also joining this year’s Supply Chain Outlook is Ronilo Balbieran, vice president for operations of the REID Foundation. A familiar face in SCMAP events, he returns to present the national economic outlook for 2018, as he did in the first ever Supply Chain Perspective in Iloilo City last year, and in Supply Chain Outlook in 2016.

As part of the USAID Advancing Philippine Competitiveness project, Balbieran has held consultative roles for government agencies such as the Department of Public Works and Highways and the Department of Tourism. He is currently taking up his doctorate degree at the University of the Philippines.

Supply Chain Outlook is scheduled for 26 January, from 12nn to 4pm, at the Garden Ballroom of the EDSA Shangri-la Manila in Mandaluyong City. The event serves as the first General Membership Meeting of 2018 and will also feature the induction of this year’s Board of Directors, led by president Nestor Felicio.
